The 10th edition of the Global Peace Index has seen Portugal leap six places to 5th position as one of the most peaceful countries in the world.

At a time of global uncertainty, the country is now only behind Iceland, Denmark, Austria and Switzerland for its ‘peacefulness’.

Considering the climate, the index shows Portugal to be the safest warm country in the world.

Compiled by the Institute of Economics and Peace in consultation with an international panel of peace experts from peace institutes and think tanks, with data collected and collated by the Economost Intelligence Unit, the latest ranking shows that the “planet is less peaceful, and the difference between the most and least peaceful places continues to increase”.

“Maintenance of historic levels of peace between the most peaceful nations is among the positive tendencies”, Bom Dia website – Portugal within the world adds. “But the conflict in the Middle East and North Africa has become so intense that this tendency is now almost unnoticeable”.
