Forest fires in northern Portugal and Spain

Serious forest fires have been burning in many parts of central and northern Portugal, particularly in the area between Coimbra and Viseu from 14 to 15 October 2017, wildfires can spread swiftly so you should remain cautious and follow the instructions of the Portuguese emergency services. You can report fires to the emergency services on 112; for further information on forest fires visit the Portuguese Met Office website or the Civil Protection authority website.

Similarly, a wave of forest fires is currently affecting rural areas of Galicia and Asturias resulting in evacuations and some road and train line closures. Areas affected include the provinces of Vigo, Ourense, Pontevedra and the Principality of Asturias; you should follow the advice of the local authorities.
